Are you an artist? Want to work on your artist statement? Probably not, right? But an artist statement is an integral part of showing work and preparing for public relations events during an exhibition. 

The Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition is hosting a workshop on September 11th from 12 - 3 PM to help you put together a cohesive and useful artist statement. A series of interactive exercises led by Elizabeth Downing, artist and writer, and Janice McCormick, writer, will help jump-start your writing process. This event is sponsored by the Arts and Humanities Council and the Visual Arts Center of Tulsa.  

Plus, the workshop ends just in time for you to head over to the juror’s talk at 4 PM for VisionMakers…..

Fausser’s knotted teapot piece “Let Me Entertain You” recieved the Juror’s Choice award at Fiber Works 2010. If you’re in Oklahoma City anytime soon, the show us up at the IAO Gallery until July 18th.

Shan Goshorn showed her talent and versatility by taking home blue ribbons in both photography and basketry at the Red Earth Festival in Oklahoma City. Her  “Sealed Fate” basket will be exhibited at VisionMakers 2010.

VisionMakers began in 1988 under the auspices of the Oklahoma Arts Council and its visionary director, Betty Price. Premiering both at Tulsa’s Philbrook Museum and Oklahoma City’s Kirkpatrick Center, it included Philbrook’s Director Marcia Manhart as juror.

Solely in Tulsa the next year, VisionMakes was held at the Bank of Oklahoma Tower where one of Tulsa’s own sons, Kreg Kallenberger, was formally recognized as an award winner (Kreg’s work can also be seen in the VisionMakers 2010 show). The Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition (OVAC) then assumed sponsorship of VisionMakers and held the next 16 exhibitions in various venues throughout the state. 

It is with great pleasure that twenty-two years later, the Brady Craft Alliance returns VisionMakers to Tulsa, making it our signature event!

This exhibit is sponsored by the Fiber Artists of Oklahoma and includes weaving, needlework, basketry, crochet, felt, and more. This is a great showcase of Oklahoma fiber and craft artists, so stop by and see what your artist neighbors have been “crafting” up recently. 

Show runs through July 17th. But if you can’t make it now, this show will be coming to Tulsa in June of 2011.
